SharePoint Setup: Modify SharePoint Regional Settings to Use Further in ShortPoint Design Elements

Regional Settings refers to how language and time are displayed on SharePoint and other apps.

There are two types of regional settings that you can change:

  • Site collection regional settings: use it to set the site collection time zone, locale, and time format.
  • User Regional settings: use it to update your own preferred language, time zone, date format, and time format. There are two places where you can set these settings:
    • Delve. Set your preferences here to define the time of the SharePoint calendars and ShortPoint Design Elements connected to them.
    • My Account Settings. Set your preferences here to define the time of the Outlook calendars and ShortPoint Design Elements connected to them.

Once modified, ShortPoint Design Elements, such as Events, will display according to your preferences.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Before we begin

  • SharePoint calendar connections are displayed according to the Delve settings. If you have not configured your personal settings in Delve (or have Always use regional settings defined by site administrators option enabled), then Events and Date Lists connected to SharePoint calendar will be displayed according to the Site Collection Regional Settings.
  • Outlook calendar connections are displayed according to the Account Settings. Outlook and Account Settings are synchronized, so you can set your date/time preferences wherever you like. Events and Date Lists connected to Outlook calendar will be displayed according to those settings.

Modifying SharePoint Site Regional Settings

Note:
You need to have Site Collection Admin rights to modify the Site Collection Regional Settings.

Users will see the SharePoint calendar events and ShortPoint Events and Date Lists Design Elements, connected to this calendar, according to the time zone, time format and locale set there in Site Collection Regional Settings.

If the user would like to set different preferences just for himself, he can define it in Delve.

Step 1: Navigate to Site Regional Settings

From the top suite bar click the cogwheel icon to open the Settings and choose Site information:

Select View all site settings:

In the opened Site Settings page, under the Site Administration section choose Regional settings:

Step 2: Modify Regional Settings

In the opened Regional Settings, you can change your site's Time Zone:

And also change the site's Region settings, such as:

  • Locale. Select a locale from the list to specify the way the site displays numbers, dates, and time:

  • Calendar. Specify the type of calendar and add a secondary calendar that provides extra information on the calendar features (optional):

  • Work week. Select which days comprise your work week and select the first day of each work week:

  • Time Format. Specify whether you want to use 12-hour time format or 24-hour format.

After you set all preferences for the site collection, click OK to save them:

To set personal settings, choose Always use my personal settings

After doing that, you will be able to change the Time Zone, Locale, Calendar, Work Week and Time Format the same way you do for the Site Collection Regional Settings.

Once you finish modifying your preferences, click Save all and close:

You will see a pop-up message, informing you that it might take some time for your changes to be reflected on the pages:
