Option 1. Classic Calendar App
The Calendar App is a web part or app found in the Classic experience of SharePoint. It is a special SharePoint Events list that users can use to list down important details about a particular event. These details include title, location, start and end time, description, and other metadata.
Creating a Classic Calendar App
Follow the guide below to learn how to create a Calendar App.
Step 1. Add a new app
Go to the site where you want to use the Calendar App and click the cogwheel button on the upper right corner of the screen.
From the drop-down, select Site Contents.
From there, click the New button and choose App from the drop-down.
Then, click classic experience.
You will be redirected to the classic App Catalog.
Step 2. Select Calendar
Look for the Calendar app using the search bar and click it.
Step 3. Name your Calendar
You will be prompted to create a title for your calendar.
After typing it in, click Create.
Step 4. Add events to the newly created Calendar
You will now see your newly created calendar in the Site Contents. Click it to open.
To add an event to the calendar, hover over the day where you wish to create the event and click Add.
You will be prompted to add a new event. Fill in all the necessary details that you plan to display on your SharePoint Site Page.
After you are done adding the event details, click Save.
Your event will now appear in the calendar. You can add as many events as you wish using the same process.
Note: You can continue adding, editing, or deleting events in this calendar even after you connect the calendar to the ShortPoint Events Design element. The Events element will be picking up all changes dynamically.
Connecting the Classic Calendar App to the ShortPoint Events Design Element
Follow the guide to learn how to insert the Events Design Element into a page and connect it to the calendar we prepared.
Step 1. Open the Page Builder
Open the page you want the Design Element to be inserted into.
- in a modern page:
Go to edit mode and click the plus icon to add a web part.
Select ShortPoint from the list of web parts.
Here is what you will see after adding the web part. Remove the default Note Design Element by hovering over it and clicking the trash icon.
Click the plus icon to open the ShortPoint Page Builder.

Open the page in edit mode, click the Insert tab in the Ribbon (1) and then the blue Insert button (2) to open the Page Builder.
Step 2: Choose the Events Design Element from the Page Builder
Choose the Events Design Element from the Page Builder gallery.
Step 3. Set up the Connection
Go to the Connect tab (1) to set up the connection for your calendar.
Then, select the connection type you prefer. For this guide, we used the Current Site (2) connection type because the calendar we created earlier is stored on the site we are currently editing.
Note: You may also choose the Other Sites and SharePoint Site URL connection types if your calendar is not located on the current Site Collection.
Under the List / Library (1) drop-down, select the name of your created calendar. In our case, it is Product Team Vacations.
Then, choose a view if you prefer to use a custom SharePoint view. We will keep it simple and use the default All Events (2) view.
Note: The Calendar view returns only events for the upcoming month.
Scroll down to set the Recurrences and filters. Below are the fields you can modify:
- Days Limit - allows you to set the number of days, months, or years that you want to appear.
- Items Limit - allows you to set the number of items you want to display from your list.
- Recurring Events - allows you to specify whether you want an event to show only once or expand.
Note: The default Days Limit is 30 days to display the events for upcoming month only. For more information about these features, check out Introducing Dynamic Connection Improvements for ShortPoint Events.
After you are done, click Connect.
If the connection is established successfully, you will see the interface light up in green.
Switch to the Items tab to continue setting up the connection. Map the fields of the Events Design Element with the columns of your SharePoint calendar.
Note: Most of the fields are mapped automatically, but you are still able to modify according to your preference. For detailed information on Items mapping, check the Step 4 of this article: ShortPoint Connect: Basic Tutorial.
Click Insert when ready.
Finally, save and/or republish the page.
