Unsupported Layout: Inserting Rows Inside Content-Holder Design Elements is Not Supported in Visual Builder and Wireframe Builder

In the new Visual Builder and Wireframe Builder all Design Elements have to be placed inside the Section and Row.

Therefore, adding another Row inside the content-holder Design Element, like Tabs, is no longer possible:

Before, this was possible with the legacy Page Builder:

Legacy Page Builder with unsupported layout: Row inside the Tabs

Note: Here is the list of content-holder ShortPoint Design Elements, that do not support adding Rows inside them: Accordions, Alert, Animate, Background, Frame, Info, List, Panel, Tabs, Templates, TOC Content, Toggles, Well.

In this article, we will show you what to do if you migrate the page with unsupported layout or try to paste such content in the new Visual Builder.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

This article is for you if

  • You are using ShortPoint Visual Builder (SPFx version 8.0.x.xx or later).
  • You use Office 365 (SharePoint Online) environment.
  • You have ShortPoint installed on your SharePoint site(s).
  • You are a ShortPoint user with an active license.

Part 1. Migrating unsupported layout

If your page contains unsupported layout, you will get the following message in a popup window when trying to migrate this page to the Visual Builder:

Migrating unsupported layout warning message

To migrate the affected page into Visual Builder, you will need to readjust the page layout. Please follow the steps below.

Step 1. Rollback to the previous, non-Visual Builder version

First thing you need to do, is to roll back to the previous, non-Visual Builder version of ShortPoint that you had on your sites before.

To do that, please open the ShortPoint Dashboard from your Site contents. From there, open the Upgrade page:

Upgrade tile in the ShortPoint Dashboard

Scroll down a bit and click Rollback to previously installed version:

Rollback to previously installed version button

This action will bring your sites back to the previous ShortPoint version.

Step 2. Readjust your page layout

After you rolled back, edit the page that you could not migrate.

Locate the unsupported layout on the page and readjust it.  You will need to make sure that you do not copy the layout that has Rows inside the content-holder Design Elements.

For example,

Initial layout
Readjusted layout
Initial (unsupported) layout: Panel with the Row inside itUpdated layout: Row with two Columns that each have a Panel inside

Step 3. Upgrade to the Visual Builder version

Once the page layout is updated, you can upgrade back to the Visual Builder.

From the Upgrade page, click Upgrade to Beta:

Upgrade to Beta button

Step 4. Migrate your page into Visual Builder

Open the page with adjusted layout, and edit it. You will be prompted for migration into Visual Builder. Please proceed.

The migration should now be successful:

Part 2. Pasting unsupported layout

This is a rare case and could happen only in two scenarios:
  1. You are copying the page content with unsupported layout from the site that has ShortPoint 7.0.x.xx version and below. It would not be possible for sites that had 7.1.5.xx+ version before migrating into Visual Builder, as they all would be migrated altogether.
  2. You have some .txt file with the page (part of the page) code, that was created/saved before migrating into Visual Builder.

If the copied content contains unsupported layout, you will get the following message in a popup window when trying to paste it to the page in Visual Builder:

Pasting unsupported layout warning message

You won't be able to paste the unsupported layout into Visual Builder. You can do one of the following actions:

  • Option 1. Readjust the source content

If you have access to the page from where you are copying the content, readjust its layout. You will need to make sure that you do not copy the layout that has Rows inside the content-holder Design Elements.

For example,

Initial layout
Readjusted layout
Initial (unsupported) layout: Panel with the Row inside itUpdated layout: Row with two Columns that each have a Panel inside

  • Option 2. Copy a single Design Element and paste it inside a Section

If you cannot modify the source content, you can simply copy a single Design Element and paste it inside the existing or new Section on the page.
