In the new ShortPoint Page Builder Live Mode and Grid Mode all Design Elements have to be placed inside the Section and Row.
NOTE: ShortPoint Page Builder Live Mode was formerly known as Visual Builder and Grid Mode was formerly known as Wireframe Builder.
Therefore, adding another Row inside the content-holder Design Element, like Tabs, is no longer possible:
Before, this was possible with the legacy Page Builder:
Note: Here is the list of content-holder ShortPoint Design Elements, that do not support adding Rows inside them: Accordions, Alert, Animate, Background, Frame, Info, List, Panel, Tabs, Templates, TOC Content, Toggles, Well.
In this article, we will show you what to do if you migrate the page with unsupported layout or try to paste such content in the new ShortPoint Page Builder Live Mode.

This article is for you if
- You are using ShortPoint SPFx version 8.0.x.xx or later.
- You use Office 365 (SharePoint Online) environment.
- You have ShortPoint installed on your SharePoint site(s).
- You are a ShortPoint user with an active license.
Part 1. Migrating unsupported layout for Modern SharePoint sites
If your page contains unsupported layout, you will get the following message in a popup window when trying to migrate this page to the ShortPoint Page Builder Live Mode:
Once this popup appears during the migration, you have two options to proceed:
Option 1: Proceed with the migration despite knowing that you have unsupported layouts
By selecting Proceed with migration button, ShortPoint will automatically covert all unsupported layouts you have in the page to a structure that will work best for your ShortPoint version. Notice that it would also indicate the number of unsupported layouts you have after migrating successfully:
IMPORTANT: If you do not click 'Proceed with Migration', you will not be able to edit the ShortPoint Design Elements on the page until the migration is completed.
Here is how your ShortPoint Design Elements would look like after migrating unsupported layouts to New Page Builder:
Before Migration | After Migration |
NOTE: You can always reconstruct the layout of your Design Elements after the migration. It is also important to know that once you are not satisfied with how your page looks after reconstructing your site, you can always go back to an older version of the page. Make sure to read this article that will tell you about Restoring Page Version After Migration to New ShortPoint Page Builder With Live Mode.
If you do not want to proceed with migration and want to revert to the last installed ShortPoint version, please follow the steps in our article on How to Roll Back to a Previously Installed ShortPoint Version.
Option 2: Adjusting layout before migration
You can always reconstruct the page if you are still on a non-Live Mode version. This way, you will be able to readjust the affected page to make sure that there are no unsupported layouts such as Rows inside a content-holding design element.
Please follow the instructions below to proceed with this process:
Step 1. Readjust your page layout
Locate the unsupported layout on the page and readjust it. You will need to make sure that you do not copy the layout that has Rows inside the content-holder Design Elements.
For example,
Initial layout | Readjusted layout |
Step 2. Upgrade to the ShortPoint Page Builder Live Mode version
Once the page layout is updated, you can now upgrade to the Live Mode.
From the Upgrade page, click Upgrade to Beta:
Step 3. Migrate your page into Live Mode
Open the page with adjusted layout, and edit it. You will be prompted for migration into Live Mode. Please proceed.
The migration should now be successful:
INFO: After successfully migrating the page, you will see a prompt that will take you to the product lesson video we have prepared for you. This will give you a quick tour how Live Mode works perfectly for your page:
Part 2. Migrating unsupported layout for Classic SharePoint sites
The process of migrating unsupported ShortPoint layouts from classic pages is almost the same with the process for migrating modern sites, but there are still some information you need to look out for. You can choose from the options below how you want to proceed:
Note: Live Mode is not available for classic pages. If you have classic pages, then you will only be able to migrate your design elements to Grid Mode.
Option 1: Proceed with the migration despite knowing that you have unsupported layouts
If you decided to proceed with the migration without reconstructing the unsupported layout you have in the page, ShortPoint will automatically convert it to a layout that will be compatible for your ShortPoint version.
This prompt below is an example of the information that it will display after the successful migration. Notice that the migration will also detect the number of unsupported layouts you have in the page:
IMPORTANT: For classic pages, migration to Grid mode will only affect all ShortPoint Design Elements and their layouts. If you currently have SharePoint out-of-the-box web parts added to your page, such as SharePoint Calendar, it will inherit ShortPoint Design Element call Web part Container once the page has been successfully migrated.Check out this article that will tell you more about it: ShortPoint WebPart Container for Classic Pages and Using SharePoint OOTB Web Parts in ShortPoint Page Builder Grid Mode
Here are some important information you should know about if you decided to not proceed with migrating the unsupported layout on the page or by pressing the 'X' button on the pop-up:
- You will be able to see the newly improved and colorful Grid Mode interface, but your ShortPoint Design Elements would not be migrated. Migration will only occur when you click 'Proceed with migration' button.
A migrated design element will typically have a Section and a Row which is the new standard layout in the New Page Builder.
- Texts, spaces and SharePoint out-of-the-box web parts will not be affected and will stay editable:
- Editing ShortPoint Design Elements will not be allowed as it will prompt you to proceed with the migration:
Option 2: Adjusting layout before migration
To proceed with this option, you can continue following the steps here: Option 2.
NOTE: SharePoint out-of-the-box web parts and spaces you have on your classic pages, are not affected when migrating to Grid Mode.
Part 3. Pasting unsupported layout
IMPORTANT: There are two types of scenarios for this part:
1. You are copying the page content with unsupported layout from the site that has an older version of ShortPoint, and you want to paste it on your site that has been migrated to the New Page Builder.
2. You have some .txt file with the page (part of the page) code, that was created/saved before migrating into Live Mode.
If the copied content contains an unsupported layout, you will be able to paste it to the page in Live Mode or Grid Mode, however, ShortPoint will automatically reconstruct it to a layout that will be compatible for your ShortPoint version.
Here is an example of a content that has an unsupported layout:
and here is an example of the content with unsupported layout that has been pasted into the New Page Builder:
You can do the following actions if you do not want your content to be automatically reconstructed:
Option 1: Readjust the source content
If you have access to the page where you are copying the content, readjust its layout. You will need to make sure that you do not copy the layout that has Rows inside the content-holder Design Elements.
Initial Layout | Readjusted layout |
Option 2: Copy a single Design Element and paste it inside a Section
If you do not want to readjust the layout for your content, you can simply copy a single Design Element and paste it inside the existing or new Section on the page.
