If you have ever tried to design a custom SharePoint page using default tools, you know the struggle: layouts can feel rigid, full-width backgrounds are tricky to set up, and organizing content into clear visual zones often requires custom code.
That is where the ShortPoint Section Design Element comes in. As the fundamental building block of the ShortPoint web part, the Section element acts as a flexible container that brings structure, visual flair, and deep customization to your SharePoint pages, enabling you to add Design Elements inside with ease.

Practical Use Cases
Because the Section element is so adaptable, you will find yourself using it across almost every page on your intranet. Here are a few practical ways to leverage it:
- High-Impact Hero Banners
Create a full-width Section at the top of your homepage. Add a rich background image with a slight dark overlay, and place a bold headline, subtitle, and primary call-to-action button inside. This creates an instant, modern portal experience for visiting employees.
- Segmented Department Portals
When building an HR, IT, or Finance hub, use alternating background colors (e.g., light gray and white) across consecutive Sections. This visual alternation breaks up dense information, making it easier for users to scan for FAQs, policy documents, or submit tickets.
- Quick-Link Toolbars
Set up a slim, full-width Section with a distinct brand color across the page to serve as an announcement ribbon or a quick-links bar for frequently used apps (like Payroll, Outlook, or Helpdesk).
- Interactive Media & Video Highlights
Insert a looping background video within a Section to highlight company events, CEO messages, or brand showcases, immediately elevating the visual polish of company news portals.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to know how to code to use the Section element?
Not at all. ShortPoint is designed as a no-code visual builder. All settings are handled through an intuitive user interface with point-and-click controls.
What is a SharePoint section and how does it differ from a ShortPoint Section?
A SharePoint section is a layout container that divides a page into distinct visual blocks, allowing you to organize content in one, two, or more columns. ShortPoint Sections, however, provide enhanced flexibility with options like background videos, exact height adjustments, section background colors, and mobile-specific visibility, all without coding.
Can I add multiple sections on the same page?
Yes, ShortPoint allows you to add multiple sections on the same page. This helps you design pages with multiple layouts, including full-width columns on communication sites, vertical sections on the right side, and regular sections with different column configurations.
How do I change the section background?
You can add a section background by selecting a color, image, or video in the background tab. This helps to visually separate content areas and enhance the overall design of your SharePoint page.
Can I control who sees a section and where?
Yes, visibility settings allow you to control who can see each section and where it appears, making it easier to target content to specific audiences.
