Connection Type: RSS Feeds


With the RSS Feeds connection type, you can present news or updates from other sites on your SharePoint pages.


This article will demonstrate how to use the RSS Feeds connection type to showcase news on your SharePoint page.

Prerequisites

  • You must have the latest version of ShortPoint SPFx installed on your SharePoint environment.
  • You must be a ShortPoint Designer with an active license.
  • You must have an existing Design Element you want to connect to an RSS Feed.
  • You must have a valid RSS feed URL.

NOTE: You can use any ShortPoint Design Element to connect to the RSS feed URL.

Step-by-step Tutorial 

Below is a detailed tutorial on how to use the RSS Feeds Connection Type:


Step 1: Edit the ShortPoint web part


  • Go to the SharePoint page where you want to use the RSS Feeds connection type and click Edit.
  • Click the ShortPoint tag.
  • Then, click the pencil icon.

Step 2: Switch to Grid Mode


  • Click the Switch to Grid Mode icon.

Step 3: Connect your Design Element to the RSS Feeds


  • Go to the Connect tab.
  • Select the RSS Feeds connection type.
  • Enter the RSS Feed URL into the RSS Feed URL field.
  • Click Connect.

Step 4: Map the Items you want to display


  • Go to the Items tab.
  • Click the [1] link icon and choose the [2] property you want to display. For this guide, we want to display the Title property.

NOTE: The properties listed under the link icon will depend on the information provided on the site you are connecting to. You can also checkout ShortPoint Connect: Basic Tutorial for more information on how ShortPoint Connect works.

  • Then, click the Linking Options drop-down to select how links will open when a user clicks on an item on the page.

Step 4: Update and Save


  • Click Preview to check how your Design Element will be displayed on your page.
  • Then, click Update.
  • Click the eye icon to see how your page will look in real-time.

  • Once satisfied, click Save to apply all changes.
