- You should be a ShortPoint user to add ShortPoint Design Elements to your pages, and set up the ShortPoint Connect.
Prerequisite
To make the solution work, make sure that your organization users have the Hire date filled in. You can always check this information in your SharePoint admin center.
From there, open the User profiles:
Click Manage User Profiles:
Find the user profile you would like to check and open it by clicking Edit My Profile:
Scroll to the Hire date and make sure the field is not left empty and is set to be shown for Everyone:
Part 1. Configuring the Hire Date property
Once you confirmed that the Hire date is filled in for the User profiles, open the SharePoint admin center for the property configuration.
Info: The Hire date property exists by default, so you do not need to create a new property.
Step 1. Locate the People-SPS:HireDate crawled property
From the side menu of the SharePoint admin center, click More features and then Open under the Search section:
Then, click Manage Search Schema:
Switch to the Crawled Properties tab:
In the list of properties, locate the People:SPS-HireDate and click it to open the menu:
Step 2. Map People:SPS-HireDate to a Managed Property
Click Add a Mapping in the Mappings to managed properties section:
Search for RefinableDate19 property. Select it and click OK:
Note: You can choose any RefinableDate property you prefer. In this article we are using mapping HireDate with RefinableDate19 as this is what we keep selected by default when you configure the Upcoming Anniversaries or New Hire ShortPoint People Search connections.
Scroll to the bottom of the page and click OK to save the settings.
Step 3. Check the RefinableDate property settings
Switch to the Managed Properties tab:
Find the RefinableDate property that you have mapped the People:SPS-HireDate to. You should be able to see your mapping under the MAPPED CRAWLED PROPERTIES section. Click the property name to open the settings:
In the opened settings, make sure the following options are checked or active:
- queryable;
- retrievable;
- refinable;
- sortable.
Click OK to save the changes if you made any.
Part 2. Setting up the People Search Connection
Once you are done with HireDate property configuration, you can set up the People Search connection to display the Upcoming Anniversaries or New Hire.
Step 1. Add a ShortPoint Design Element
Add any ShortPoint Design Element to the page. Design Elements can be easily added to your pages using ShortPoint Page Builder.
Modern experience:
In the edit mode of the page, click the blue Insert button to open the ShortPoint Page Builder:
Classic experience:
1. Choose the Insert tab in the Ribbon.
2. Click the blue Insert button.
Then, select the chosen Design Element from the ShortPoint Page Builder grid:
Idea: For the purpose of this article, we will add the Image Lists Design Element, however you can use any other Design Element you like.
Once you've added a ShortPoint Design Element, the Settings tab will open:
Step 2. Connect to People Search
2.1. Select People Search
Switch to the Connect tab and choose People Search from the connection options:
2.2. Apply a Filter
Choose a filter you would like to apply from the drop-down of the relevant field. In this example, we are selecting Upcoming Anniversaries filter:
Make sure that the mapped property for Hire Date is selected correctly - as it was configured before in the part 1, step 2. In our case, it's RefinableDate19:
Indicate the Number of days to show for the upcoming anniversaries (the upcoming anniversaries that will be within the next X days), or new hires (X days passed since the employees' hire date(s)). By default, it's 7 days:
For upcoming anniversaries, you can also select the number of completed years from the drop-down. This option is useful if you'd like to display only people who have a certain number of years completed, for example, only 5 years anniversaries:
2.3. Proceed with connection
You can add the Items limit and Enable Caching for the Design Element if you'd like. Once you're done with all settings, click the Connect button:
After you see that the connection is successful, proceed to the next step to map the items:
Step 3. Map the Items
Switch to the Items tab:
Press the chain icon on the right of the Design Element field (for example, Title) and select from the drop-down which property corresponds to it:
For the Upcoming Anniversaries, you can select the date when the anniversary is, and the number of completed years. Choose the Anniversary Celebration Day without year and Anniversary Years Completed options respectively:
For the New Hire, you can select the hire date - Hire Date without year property is corresponding to it:
