How to Get Your SharePoint Group ID

A Group ID is a unique string of numbers and letters associated with a specific Microsoft 365 Group. This article will show you four options to retrieve it.

Retrieving SharePoint Group ID

Choose the option that best suits your needs:


Option 1: Using the Microsoft Graph API connection


NOTEYou must be a ShortPoint Designer with an active license to use this option.


Step 1: Switch to Grid Mode

In edit mode, click the Switch to Grid Mode icon:

Step 2: Edit a Design Element

Click the cogwheel icon of any Design Element on your page. For this guide, we’ll use an Image List:

Step 3: Run All Groups in My Organization Use Case

Go to the Connect tab:

Select Microsoft Graph API:

Look for All Groups in My Organization and select it:

Click Run Query:

Step 4: Copy Group ID

Under the Response View, look for the name of your group and copy its ID. For this guide, the name of our group is Human Resources:

Option 2: Using Microsoft 365 Admin Center


NOTEYou can only access the Microsoft 365 Admin Center if you have admin access.


Step 1: Open Active Teams & Groups

Go to Microsoft 365 Admin Center:

Select Teams & Groups:

Then, click Active Teams & Groups:

Step 2: Copy the Group ID

Look for the group you want to get the Group ID for and select it:

You will notice that the URL changed. Copy the string of letters and numbers after “TeamDetails/”. That is your Group ID:

Awesome! You now have your group’s Group ID.


Option 3: Using Microsoft Teams


NOTEThis option is best when your Microsoft Group is also associated with Teams.


Step 1: Open Microsoft Teams

Go to Microsoft Teams:

Step 2: Copy Group ID

Look for the group you want to get the Group ID for and click the ellipsis icon:

Click Get Link to Team:


Get link to team


Copy the string of letters and numbers after groupID= and before &tenantId. That is your Group ID:

That’s it! You now have your group’s Group ID.


Option 4: Using Microsoft Entra Admin Center


NOTEYou must have the necessary permissions to access the Microsoft Entra Admin Center.


Step 1: Open Microsoft Entra Admin Center

Go to Microsoft Entra Admin Center:

Step 2: Copy Group ID

Select Groups:

Click All Groups:

Use the search bar to look for your group:

Copy the series of numbers and letters under Object ID. This is your Group ID:

Congratulations! You have successfully retrieved your Group ID.
