Visual Builder Pasting Experience on SharePoint 2019 with an Unsecured Protocol (http)

On the SharePoint 2019 environment with an unsecured protocol (http), the pasting experience in the new Visual Builder and Wireframe Builder modes will not work the same as it would with a secured protocol (https). When pasting ShortPoint content onto your secure (https) SharePoint pages, you will see the Design Element right away (Figure 1 below). However, when pasting on insecure pages (http), you will first see a popup window where you will need to paste the shortcode, and then select the desired location to insert the pasted ShortPoint content (Figure 2 below).

HTTP Example

This article explains how you can paste ShortPoint content with this method, such as that copied from the ShortPoint Demos website.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Before we begin

You must be a ShortPoint user with an active license, and have ShortPoint Visual Builder version 8.0.x.xx or later installed on the SharePoint 2019 environment.

Why the pasting experience is different

Modern browsers do not allow reading from the clipboard in JavaScript on insecure pages for security and privacy reasons.

Info: To learn more about how and why such protocols have been implemented, you can check the following 3rd party references:

Copy content

From ShortPoint Demos website

You can copy an entire page or single Design Element from the ShortPoint Demos website:

From Design Elements in Visual Builder

There are two ways of copying/duplicating/cutting your existing ShortPoint Design Elements in the Visual Builder:

Option 1: Context menu

Right-click the Design Element to open the Context menu and choose an option from the drop-down:

Context menu copy Visual Builder

Option 2: EasyPass Active mode and Other Actions

Activate the EasyPass Active mode. Click the three dots icon (1) to access the Other Actions and choose an option from the drop-down (2):

From Design Elements in Wireframe Builder

There are two ways of copying/duplicating/cutting your existing ShortPoint Design Elements in the Wireframe Builder:

Option 1: Context menu

Right-click the Design Element to open the Context menu and choose an option from the drop-down:

Context menu copy Wireframe

Option 2: Ellipsis button and Other Actions

Click the three dots icon to access the Other Actions and choose an option from the drop-down:

Other Actions copy Wireframe

Paste content

Similar to copying, there are a few different ways you can paste the content:

In Visual Builder, either right-click inside a Section or Row, then select Paste from the opened context menu; or activate the EasyPass Active mode and click the three dots icon to open the Other Actions and choose Paste from the drop-down:

Right click and select Paste

In Wireframe Builder, either right-click inside a Section or Row, then select Paste from the opened context menu; or click the three dots icon to open the Other Actions and choose Paste from the drop-down.

You will see a popup where you can paste the copied content:

Paste design

Then select a desired Paste option from the options shown. There are the following paste options:

  • Paste Before. Use this option if you would like to insert the copied Design Element before the current Design Element.

  • Paste Inside. Use this option if you would like to insert the copied Design Element  inside the current Design Element. This option is only available for content-holder Design Elements.
Note: The content-holder Design Elements are Column, Accordions, Alert, Animate, Background, Frame, Info, List, Panel, Tabs, Templates, TOC Content, Toggles, Well.

  • Paste After. Use this option if you would like to insert the copied Design Element after the current Design Element.

The pasted code will be processed, and all plain HTML will be added as a Text Design Element.
