How to Create Recurring Events in ShortPoint

This article shows you the steps to enter recurring event entries in your ShortPoint Events design element.

Part 1: Create Dynamic Recurring Events

Connect your ShortPoint Events design element to your site calendar and will show its contents.

Step 1: Go to SharePoint Calendar Page

View your SharePoint Calendar page where event entries are added to your site.

Step 2: Create a Custom View

Go to the Calendar tab, show the drop-down options under Current View and choose All Events

A list view of the calendar entries will appear. Take note of the column with the recurring icon where recurring events in the list will be identified.

Note: If you do not see the Recurrence column, you will need to click Modify View and put a check beside the Recurrence column as shown below.

While in the All Events View, click the List tab, choose Create View and select Standard View. Name your custom view in the View Name field. In this example, we are naming it “HR Recurring Events”.

Apply filters or sorting parameters to your preference.

Hit OK to save the custom view. This will be the view you will be using to connect your Events design element to.

Step 3: Connect to  view

In the Events element, go to the Connect tab. Select where the calendar you created is located and use the appropriate connection type. In our example, it is located in the Current Site.

Enter the following information in the Connect fields:

In the List / Library field dropdown, select the calendar you will pull events from. Here, we have a calendar named Company Events.

Choose the custom view you created in Step 2 in the View field drop down. We will be selecting our custom view "Upcoming Events".

Type the number of days, months, or years in the Days Limit field and enter how many items you want to display in the Items Limit field.

In the drop-down, choose if you want to show only the first instance of a recurring event or all of the events in the Recurring Events field.

Add the Preferred Time Zone you want the date and time to be shown or leave blank if you want it to show based on the user's regional settings.

Modify the language you want to display the message of the all day event ("all day") in the Language field.

Finally, press the green Connect button and wait until the ShortPoint is Connected message appears.

Step 4: Map recurring events

Items Mapping will now be available in your Items tab. Choose what information to show about your events.

In this example, we are mapping the Title field to show the Title of the event, the Start Date field to show the Start Time, the End Date field to show the End Time, and the Location field to show the Location from the drop-down.

Step 5: Choose Recurrence Data

From the drop-down parallel to the Recurring switch, choose Recurrence.

You will then see the added item:

Step 6: Insert or Update Events and Publish

You can Preview the result of your dynamic recurring event.  Once all entries are shown according to your preference, you can hit Insert or Update and Publish the page.

Here is a sample of a completed dynamic recurring event:

Part 2: Create static recurring events

You can choose to enter recurring events directly into the Events element. In this case, we don't use the Connect Feature, and all the information is saved on the page.

Step 1: Go to the Items Tab

In the Events element, go to the Items tab and enter event information in the blank fields.

Step 2: Switch On Recurring Option

If it is a recurring event, remember to go to the Recurring field and switch it on.

Step 3: Preview and Update

When you click Preview, you will be able to see what your event entries will look like.  Once ready, you can click Insert or Update and Publish the page.

Here is a sample of how your static recurring events will appear:
