With ShortPoint, not only you can connect the elements to the SharePoint assets on the same site, but to other sites across your tenant or farm as well.
In this article, we will show you how to connect the ShortPoint Simple List element to an existing list hosted in another SharePoint Site Collection.
Note: you can use any ShortPoint Element of your preference.
Follow the below steps on how you can do it.
TABLE OF CONTENTS
- Step 1: Identify the desired list or library in another site collection
- Step 2: Insert a ShortPoint Design Element
- Step 3: Select Other Sites option
- Step 4: Complete Connect fields
- Step 5: Map Items
- Step 6: Click Insert and Publish
- ShortPoint is installed in your environment and you are assigned as ShortPoint user.
- You have site assets in other site collections (Lists or Libraries), with some data that you will be using to connect the ShortPoint element to, as well as permissions to view these assets.
Step 1: Identify the desired list or library in another site collection
You can find the specific list or library you want to connect your element to in the Site Contents.
In Site Contents, identify the name of the list or library that contains the contents you want to appear on your site:
In our example, Tutorial Modules is a simple SharePoint list that we will be connecting with:
Step 2: Insert a ShortPoint Design Element
Go to your site and edit your page. Add or edit the web part where you want to set your list or library and insert a design element.
We are using a Simple Lists design element in this example but you may use any option from the ShortPoint Page Builder.
Step 3: Select Other Sites option
Go to the Connect tab and select the Other Sites option.
Step 4: Complete Connect fields
You will now see the fields you need to fill in.
The Site Collection field will load all available sites within the tenant/web application. Select the site you will connect to.
This field will list sites of the selected site collection.
List / Library
The site's lists and libraries will be shown in the drop-down. Select the one you want to use.
You can choose from the default views or any custom views within the list or library.
Indicate how many entries from the list or library you want to appear on your page.
The default 0 indicates that there is no limit and the list will show as many items as available in the selected view.
Note: the default value is set to 0. It means, that there could be an unlimited number of items displayed in your ShortPoint List.
Once complete, click the Connect button and wait for the connection to load.
Step 5: Map Items
Map the corresponding properties of your list or library to display on your page in the Items tab.
Here we want to select Title in the drop-down for the Title field and Item URL for the Link field. This will display the title of each item in our sample list and attach the appropriate link to each entry to redirect users to the corresponding page or content.
Note: For more details about Items mapping, please see Step 4 of the ShortPoint Connect: Basic Tutorial article
Step 6: Click Insert and Publish
Preview your work to see how it will be displayed on your page.
Click Insert and Publish once done.
