How to Use ?spcopy=1 to Copy and Paste Individual Design Elements

If you have visited our Demos Website, you may have noticed a ShortPoint Copy bar fixed at the top of the website, which allows you to easily copy elements from the page



You can also do the same with your SharePoint sites. ShortPoint Designers can choose the elements they need and copy them to another site. This is extremely useful for maintaining design uniformity across all your SharePoint websites.

You can accomplish this by using “?spcopy=1”. This article will demonstrate how to use it to copy and paste ShortPoint Design Elements from one page to another. 


NOTEThis solution is an alternative to clicking the copy button from the other actions icon on the EasyPass tag.

Prerequisites

  • You must have the latest version of ShortPoint SPFx installed on your SharePoint environment.
  • You must be a ShortPoint Designer with an active license.
  • You must have a Design Element from another SharePoint page that you want to copy.
  • You must have an existing SharePoint page where you want to paste the copied Design Element.

NOTEIf you wish to remove the option to copy a Design Element, simply remove ‘shortpoint-copy’ as a Class name.

Step-by-step Tutorial

The steps have been divided into three parts. Follow each part closely to learn how to copy and paste individual Design Elements using ?spcopy=1:


Part 1: Add Class Name

This section demonstrates how to add a class name that enables the copying of individual Design Elements.


NOTEIf you apply a class name to a Section, Row, Column, or a content-holder Design Element, it will apply to the rest of its content.


Step 1: Edit the ShortPoint Web Part

  • Go to the SharePoint page where you want to copy Design Elements from and click Edit:

  • Close the Toolbar:

  • Edit the ShortPoint web part:

Step 2: Edit a Design Element

  • Click the EasyPass tag of the Design Element that you want to copy. For this guide, we’ll use this Section:

  • Select the cogwheel icon:

Step 3: Add a Class Name

  • Click the next icon:

  • Go to the Custom CSS tab.
  • Write ‘shortpoint-copy’ as the Class Name:

  • Click the green check mark.


NOTEIf you have more Design Elements to copy, repeat Steps 2 & 3.

Step 4: Save and Publish

  • Once satisfied, click Save:

  • Publish your page:

Save


That’s it! You’ve successfully added a Class name. You can now proceed to Part 2.


Part 2: Copy a Design Element

This section shows you how to copy the Design Elements you added the Class names to.


Step 1: Add ?spcopy=1

  • Add ‘?spcopy=1’ at the end of your page’s URL and press the Enter key:

Step 2: Enable Allow to Copy Parts

  • Toggle on Allow to Copy Parts:

Step 3: Copy Design Element

  • Find the Design Element you want to copy and click Copy:

Great! You can now proceed to Part 3.


Part 3: Paste the Design Element

This section shows you how to paste the copied Design Element.


Step 1: Edit the ShortPoint Web Part

  • Go to the SharePoint page where you want to copy Design Elements from and click Edit:

  • Close the Toolbar:

  • Edit the ShortPoint web part:

Step 2: Right-click and Paste

  • Choose where you want to paste the Design Element, right-click, and select Paste:

NOTEIf you wish to paste more Design Elements from the other page, simply repeat the same steps.

Step 3: Save

  • Once done, click Save:

  • Finally, Publish your page:


Save


Congratulations! You have successfully copied and pasted individual Design Elements from one page to another.
