How to Set ShortPoint Element Visibility to Active Directory Security Group

This article will demonstrate how to set up Design Element Visibility to support Active Directory Security Group:

Prerequisites

  • You must have the latest version of ShortPoint SPFx installed on your SharePoint environment.
  • You must be a ShortPoint Designer with an active license.
  • You must already have the Design Element that you want to set up the visibility for on your SharePoint page.

Step-by-step Tutorial

The steps have been divided into two parts. Follow each part closely to successfully set up Design Element Visibility for Active Directory Security Group.


Part 1: Change the SharePoint Group's Visibility Setting

This section explains how to add an Active Directory (AD) security group to a SharePoint group and configure the SharePoint group settings for compatibility with ShortPoint visibility features.


Step 1: Open People and Group Site Settings

Open SharePoint and click the cogwheel icon:

Select Site settings from the drop-down:

Step 2: Share Group

Select the Group you want to use:

Click New to invite members:

Type the [1] name of the Security group (AD group) which you want to add to the SharePoint group and click [2] Share:

Step 3: Customize the Group Settings

Click Settings:

Set the membership visibility to [1] Group Members and click [2] OK:

Part 2: Setting ShortPoint element's Visibility

This part describes how to configure ShortPoint visibility to support Security groups (AD groups).


Step 1: Edit the ShortPoint Web Part

Go to the SharePoint page you want to use and click Edit:

Close the Toolbox:

Step 2: Switch to Grid Mode


NOTECurrently, Visibility settings can only be modified in Grid Mode.

Step 3: Edit the Design Element


NOTES: [1] Before proceeding, make sure you already have the Design Element you want to set up the visibility for on your SharePoint page.

[2] Setting visibility for Sections, Rows, Columns, or content-holder Design Elements will affect all Design Elements contained within them.

Click the cogwheel icon of the Design Element you want to use. You can use any Design Element, but for this guide, we’ll use Section:

Step 4: Enable Support for Other Groups

Go to the Visibility tab:

Add the SharePoint group you modified in Part 1 in the "This ShortPoint is visible only for" or "Do not show it for" property. For this guide, we’ll add it to the first property:

Toggle on Enable advanced settings:

Step 5: Save

Click Update:

Select the eye icon to see your page in real-time:

Save


That's it! Now, ShortPoint Visibility will support Security group (AD group) users.
