How to Add Quick Links in SharePoint

This article explains how to use the SharePoint Quick Links web part and covers all its features.

Step-by-step Tutorial

Follow the steps below to learn how to use the Quick Links web part.


Step 1: Edit the SharePoint Page

Go to the SharePoint page you want to use and click Edit:

Close the Toolbox:

Click the gray plus icon:

Use the search bar to look for Quick Links and select it:

Step 3: Customize the Design

Click the Edit Properties icon:

Choose the layout option you want to use. For this guide, we’ll use the Button layout:

Then, continue customizing how it looks:

NOTEAvailable options vary depending on your chosen layout. Go to Quick Links features to see all the options you can customize.


Close the Quick Links properties once satisfied:

Select any item:

Choose how you want to add a link from the sidebar. For this guide, we’ll use From a link:

Fill in the details and click Add:

NOTEOptions will vary depending on the way you added the link.


Then, enable [1] Open link in a new tab if you want the link to open in a new tab, and add a [2] Title:

Customize the [1] Thumbnail and [2] Description:

Once satisfied, close the Quick Links properties:

To add more links, click Add links:

Repeat the steps:

Step 5: Publish

Click Publish:

Amazing! You now have Quick Links on your SharePoint page.


Below are the options you can modify:

Layout OptionsLayout Optionsallows you to choose the appearance of the Quick Links. Check out Layout Options Styles to see all the options available.
Show titleShow Titlewhen enabled, the Quick Links title will be shown.
Enable audience targetingEnable Audience Targetingwhen enabled, you can promote links to a specified group of people.

Below are the layout options and their features: 

  • Compact Style

Show image in layoutShow image in layoutwhen enabled, you’ll have the option to add a custom image as an icon.
AnimationAnimationwhen enabled, it adds a depth effect when you hover each item.

  • Filmstrip Style

  • Grid Style

  • Button Style

IconsIconsallows you to modify the location of the icon (no icon, icon on left, icon on top).
Button appearanceButton appearanceallows you to customize the look of the button (no outline, outline, fill color).
AlignmentAlignmentallows you to choose the alignment of the button (left, center).
Title textTitle Textallows you to set the title in one line or two lines.
AnimationAnimationwhen enabled, it adds a depth effect when you hover each item.

  • List Style

Show descriptionsShow Descriptionswhen enabled, it allows you to add a description for each item.
Show iconsShow iconswhen enabled, the icon will be shown.
AnimationAnimationwhen enabled, it adds a depth effect when you hover each item.

  • Tiles Style

Icon sizeIcon sizeallows you to modify how big the tiles are (small, medium, large, extra large, fill space).
Show only icon or imageShow only icon or imagewhen enabled, the title of each item will be hidden. Only the icon or image will be shown.
AnimationAnimationwhen enabled, it adds a depth effect when you hover each item.
