Partial Loading For ShortPoint Connections With Over 20 Results

Keeping page performance always optimized is a top priority at ShortPoint. We understand the importance of having the best user experience when viewing your intranet pages.

This is why we implement Partial Loading in some aspects of the product where it is needed, such as in connected Design Elements. However, we give you the option to disable this feature anytime.

In this article, we will discuss how Partial Loading works and demonstrate how you can easily disable it in connected Design Elements when needed.

Prerequisites

• You have upgraded to ShortPoint SPFx version 8.3.x.xx on your Microsoft 365 or SharePoint 2019 environment.
• You are a ShortPoint Designer with an active license.
• You have connected Design Element which retrieves over 20 results from its source. The Design Element must display content vertically (i.e. all the lists, Events).

How does partial loading work in connected Design Elements?

Connected Design Elements automatically pull content from the data source each time the page is loaded or refreshed. However, when displaying a large amount of data, this can consume a lot of bandwidth and slow down your page’s performance.

Partial Loading addresses this issue by initially limiting the number of results displayed to 20. Additional results are loaded in portions as the user scrolls, improving overall performance and user experience.

It is important to note the following about partial loading:

• It only applies to connected Design Elements that display content vertically (i.e. all lists, Events). It is not implemented for Design Elements that display content horizontally (i.e. Slideshow, Image Carousel). 
• Partial loading will still be in effecteven when you set an Items Limit of over 20.

How to disable partial loading

In cases where you need to display results all at once and you want to disable partial loading, you can follow these steps:

Please consider that disabling Partial Loading may lead to slowed page performance when retrieving a large amount of data.

Step 1: Edit the ShortPoint web part

• Go to the page where your connected Design Element is located and click Edit.

• Select the ShortPoint web part.
• Enter edit mode by clicking the pencil icon.

Step 2: Open connected Design Element settings in Grid Mode

• Connect is currently accessible only in the Grid Mode. Press Switch to Grid Mode in the Action Toolbar.

• Navigate to the connected Design Element and press the cogwheel icon to open its settings.

Step 3: Slide partial loading toggle off in the Connect tab

• Go to the Connect tab.
• Scroll down to the Performance and Caching section.
• Slide the partial loading toggle off.

Step 4: Update and save

• Once done, click Update to apply the changes made to the Design Element settings.

• Save the edits you made.
• Lastly, Republish the page.

That is all! Your connected Design Element will now show all its contents along with every page load or refresh.
