Prerequisites
- You have the latest version of ShortPoint SPFx installed on your SharePoint environment.
- You are a ShortPoint Designer with an active license.
What Is the Copy and Paste Option?
The Copy and Paste options let you make an exact copy of a Design Element and place it somewhere else on your page. The copy keeps everything from the original: its content, its design settings, and any Design Elements inside it.
This saves you from building the same element again by hand. For example, if you've already set up and styled a Person Cards element, you can copy it into another Section of your page and then just change the people shown.
You'll find both options in two places:
- The ellipsis (…) menu on a Design Element's EasyPass tag
- The context menu that opens when you right-click a Design Element

Step-by-step Tutorial
Step 1: Open ShortPoint Page Builder
- Go to the SharePoint page you want to use and click Edit.

- Close the SharePoint Toolbox by clicking the X icon.

- Click the Edit web part icon on the ShortPoint web part toolbar. This opens ShortPoint Page Builder.

Step 2: Copy a Design Element
There are two ways to copy a Design Element. Choose the option that suits you.
NOTEIf it's your first time copying a Design Element, a pop-up will appear instructing you to allow copying to your clipboard. Allow it for a seamless copying experience.Option 1: Using the EasyPass tag
- Click the EasyPass tag of the Design Element you want to copy. In this example, we are copying a Person Cards element.

- Click the ellipsis (…) icon.

- Select Copy from the menu.

That's it! You've copied the Design Element. You can now paste it anywhere on your page.
Option 2: By right-clicking the Design Element
- Right-click the Design Element you want to copy. This opens the context menu.

- Select Copy.

Great! You've copied the Design Element. You can now paste it anywhere on your page.
Step 3: Paste the Design Element
There are also two ways to paste a Design Element. Choose the option that suits you.
Option 1: Using the EasyPass tag
- Go to the spot where you want to paste the Design Element and click the EasyPass tag of the element next to it. In this example, we want to paste the Person Cards under a Text element, so we click its tag.

- Click the ellipsis (…) icon.

- Choose the paste option that matches what you want to do. Since we want the Person Cards below the Text, we select Paste Person Cards After Text.

Awesome! The Design Element now appears where you pasted it.

Option 2: By right-clicking a Design Element
- Go to the spot where you want to paste the Design Element and right-click the element next to it. In this example, we right-click the Text element.

- Choose the paste option that matches what you want to do. Since we want the Person Cards below the Text, we select Paste Person Cards After Text.

Congratulations! You've pasted the Design Element.

NOTEKeyboard shortcuts (Ctrl + V on Windows, Cmd + V on Mac) don't paste Design Elements. Use the ellipsis menu or right-click and paste instead.
Paste Options
The paste options you see depend on the Design Element you select:
- Paste Before: pastes the copied Design Element before the selected one.
- Paste After: pastes the copied Design Element after the selected one.
- Paste Into: pastes the copied Design Element inside the selected one. This is only available for content-holder Design Elements (see below).
NOTEIf you paste a Design Element without a Section and Row around it, ShortPoint automatically adds a Section and Row for it.
Copying and Pasting Content-holder Design Elements
Content-holder Design Elements can hold other Design Elements inside them. These include Section, Row, Accordions, Alert, Background, Frame, Info, List, Panel, Tabs, Toggles, and Well.
When you copy a content-holder Design Element, everything inside it is copied too. For example, if you copy a Section that has text, an image list, and a file list, all are copied with it. You can paste a content-holder Design Element before, after, or into another content-holder Design Element.
Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between Copy, Cut, and Duplicate?
- Copy keeps the original Design Element where it is and lets you paste a copy anywhere on your page.
- Cut removes the original Design Element so you can paste it somewhere else. Use it when you want to move an element rather than repeat it.
- Duplicate adds a copy right next to the original in one step, without a separate paste.
Can I use Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V (Cmd + C and Cmd + V on Mac)?
No. Keyboard shortcuts don't paste Design Elements. If you try, a message asks you to right-click inside a ShortPoint web part to paste. Use the ellipsis menu or the right-click menu instead.
Why don't I see any paste options?
You need to copy a Design Element first. The paste options only appear in the menu after something has been copied.
Why don't I see the Paste Into option?
Paste Into is only available when you select a content-holder Design Element, such as a Section, Row, Tabs, or Accordions. For other Design Elements, you can paste before or after them.
Does copying a Design Element also copy the elements inside it?
Yes. When you copy a content-holder Design Element, such as a Section or Tabs, everything inside it is copied too.
Do I need to add a Section and Row before pasting?
No. If you paste a Design Element without a Section and Row around it, ShortPoint adds them for you automatically.
